At a social gathering this past weekend, I was asked what I do for a living. When I explained that I worked for a web company that focuses on Open Source solutions, I was asked first "what's Open Source", and then I would almost inevitably be asked, "Why not just use Microsoft's stuff?"
Here's why:
Check the URL…
Notably, it was an error that was quickly resolved. I won the error lottery, obviously, but it does beg the question, if Microsoft can't maintain their stuff, why should the rest of the world be expected to maintain it?

Because spending three hours playing “what’s wrong with Microsoft” builds character.
Plus, it’s always better on the ego when you see “server error” on a site other than the one you’ve spent weeks coding.

Hah! I spent several college courses that were essentially “What’s wrong with this Microsoft product?” and the only thing it taught me is that I’d have to be payed an atrocious amount of money to work with MS stuff for a living.
Ego thing is spot-on, though.
